Ever since “Kayla The Great And The Magic Red Dress”
was a big hit in my son’s 1st grade class, I’ve been wanting to know more about the author of this super smart 6 year old, Stephanie Davis.  I’m always happy to meet a fellow read aloud enthusiast and I was super excited to find out that we also share a passion for travel.

Currently residing in Atlanta, Stephanie was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. She travels often to her hometown and raves about the beautiful pristine beaches and the eclectic fine dining experience that Jacksonville offers.

Stephanie recently published “Kayla The Great and the Magic Red Dress” and has just announced the release of her second book, “Kayla The Great Goes to Washington”.   I can’t wait to get my hands on this book, from what I hear it’s full of surprises.

I had an opportunity to interview Stephanie and ask her some questions about her new book and her travels.  Needless to say Stephanie has been pretty busy flying around the country promoting Kayla the Great.

10 Questions for Author Stephanie Davis:

1.  Where was the last place you traveled for vacation?

Ocho Rios,  Jamaica with my girlfriends in 2013.  We stayed at the beautiful RIU in Negril.

2.  Can you share something memorable that happened while in  Jamaica ?  

I met this local woman on the beach in Jamaica who braided hair for a living.  She asked me if she could braid my hair. I told her yes, of course. Three hours later, we were still talking and laughing. She shared her story and upbringing with me, and I shared some things with her. Just two women connecting. Really simple and unforgettable.  

3.  If you can go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

Egypt! I am completely obsessed with Egyptian culture, history and mythology. 

4.  Who would you take to Egypt? 

Just me. I want to be able to take it all in by myself. 

5. Where was your first passport stamp?

Nassau, Bahamas. 

6.  What are some things you like to do while on vacation?

I really like to unwind and relax on vacations. And I love to eat! Experiencing new cuisine is a biggie for me. I like trying new foods; authentic foods from different parts of the country.  

7.  Where is your ideal setting for writing and creating?

Any place with warm weather, a beautiful beach and great people.

8.  What inspired you to write and publish Kayla The Great?

A family member had a baby girl a few years ago and I wanted to buy the baby a book. I visited tons of book stores and I was really surprised and disappointed to see very few books that featured little girls as the lead character. And there were virtually no books with little girls of color. I had the idea of Kayla The Great for quite some time, so I decided to move forward with it.

9.  Of all the places you could have written about, why did you choose Washington D.C. for Kayla’s trip? 

I love politics.  I toured the White House when President Clinton was in office and I’ve been quite a few times after that.  I thought the White House would be a really fun place for a kid to visit.

10.  What do you like most about Washington D.C.?

I absolutely love D.C.!  There’s a young, fresh energy about the city. And the history! It’s like one big history museum.
