15 Easy Senegalese Twists Hair Styles
I planned a few trips in June, Paris and Savannah, and I needed a protective hair style that was versatile and would last.
I knew that I wouldn’t have time to play around with my natural hair in Paris so I wanted something easy. The Senegalese Twist styles has been showing up on my Pinterest feed and I’ve been pinning it on my Paris 2015 board for inspiration.
The Senegalese Twists can be worn in so many different styles, dressed up or dressed down. I knew that it would be the perfect hair style to wear in Paris.
This was my first time wearing hair extensions and I chose to do it myself because I wanted full control of the outcome. I can twist my own natural hair so learning to add the hair extensions was easy after watching a few YouTube videos.
I do not use hair pins in any of these easy styles. Hair pins irritate my scalp and are uncomfortable. I used black Goody hair ties to keep my Senegalese Twist in place all day and night.
I used my EEZ-Y Selfie Stick to capture most of my Senegalese Twist style photos, even the back view ones. This selfie stick is so easy to use and came in handy during my two weeks of travel. Plus, I didn’t have to ask my husband to take photos of me all day like I usually do when we travel.
15 Easy Senegalese Twist Hair Styles For Travel
1. High Bun
The High Bun is perfect for lounging poolside on a hot and sticky day during My Savannah Girlfriends Getaway. I used a jeweled headband to add a little glitz to my black bikini and dark oversized sunglasses.
To get this look I started with a very high ponytail. My Senegalese Twists are long so I had to bend over to make sure all the hair was in the ponytail.
After I got it nice and secure, I sectioned the ponytail in half. I twisted one half and wrapped it around the ponytail. I twisted the other half and wrapped it around the ponytail going the other direction. I tucked both ends securely in the wrapped hair.
2. Elegant
I wore this elegant look the first night in Savannah. I wanted an up do that would show off my statement necklace but didn’t want it to be overly complicated.
I sectioned my hair in two parts. More hair in the back, less in the front. The back was placed in a ponytail, tightly two strand twisted, wrapped around, and tucked under. I did the same with the front but positioned the ponytail on the front side. I twisted it tightly and tucked under. No pins no pain!
3. The Professional
When I’m not vacationing I’m working and I have to maintain a professional look. I can’t have my long Senegalese Twists loose and all over my body. I also try and avoid extreme hair styles while I’m at work so this was perfect.
It was very easy. The twists are sectioned in two parts. More in the back, less in the front. I pulled the front section to one side and rolled my hair into a small bun. I used a hair tie to secure the hair roll/bun at the base. I then gathered the hair left from the bun with the remaining hair and created a big braid coming down one side and secured the ends with a hair tie.
I love this!! I cannot believe you put these in yourself! I had Marley twists for the first time and loved them! I love all your styles. So creative!
Thanks Nadeen!
Love all the great styles you mentioned in your blog Katrina and of course you look beautiful! Ive been looking for a summer hair style wear I dont have to play with my natural hair everyday and I can also look professional for work. Definitely will try your recommendation just need to find someone to do it for me at a reasonable price. Dont have patience like you to braid my own hair 🙂 Thanks Katrina for your inspiration and once again excellent work on this blog.
Thanks for checking it out! I think this style will look great on you!!
Does your head feel heavy when wearing the Senegalese twist in a bun? Do you recommend that my natural hair be straight before adding the hair or can i add the hair my natural curl pattern? Which option will blend best with my hair with minimal fuzziness. Thanks!
I think it depends on which hair you use. The Marley twist I recommend using your natural hair. The Kanekaleon hair worked with my natural hair but may be better if I would have blown it out. I may try that next time. I also used lots of Jam!
It was a bit heavy at first but I got use to it.
So cute Katrina, you did an excellent job in styling. I need to watch some You Tube Video’s pronto!!!
